Cascabella Chilli Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds
Cascabella is a traditional Mexican chilli prized for its crisp, tangy pods, manageable heat and excellent productivity.
The compact, bushy plants produce large numbers of small, tapered fruits held above and around the foliage. Pods typically reach around 5cm long and pass through a beautiful colour progression as they mature:
Pale Yellow → Golden Yellow → Orange → Red
Cascabella peppers have a fresh, slightly tangy flavour with enough heat to give them character without overwhelming a dish. They are generally rated at around 1,500–3,000 Scoville Heat Units, putting them in the mild-to-medium range.
One of Cascabella’s best-known uses is pickling. The firm little fruits work brilliantly whole in vinegar or brine and are also excellent chopped into salsas, salads, tacos and Mexican-style dishes. They can be harvested yellow for their crisp texture and brighter flavour or allowed to mature fully to orange or red.
Plants are relatively compact, typically around 45–60cm tall, yet can be extremely productive. They are well suited to pots, greenhouses, polytunnels or a warm sheltered position outdoors. Around 80 days from transplanting is a reasonable guide to maturity under suitable conditions.
