Fried Chicken Chilli Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds
Bubblegum × Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion | C. chinense | Superhot
Fried Chicken is one of the most extraordinary-looking modern superhot chillies, producing intensely wrinkled and blistered orange pods that can look remarkably like pieces of crispy fried chicken.
The variety traces back to a cross created by Italian chilli breeder Rocco Maltesi around 2016–2017, generally reported as 7 Pot Bubblegum (BBG7) × Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion (JPGS). The original cross circulated under the name BubbleSkin, referring to its remarkable skin texture, before particularly gnarly examples gained attention amongst chilli growers and became widely known as the Fried Chicken Pepper.
Its appearance is the real attraction. Pods mature from green to golden orange/peach, developing deep wrinkles, folds, blistering and irregular shapes. The best phenotypes have an almost battered appearance unlike virtually any other chilli.
Behind the novelty is a genuinely formidable superhot C. chinense. Reports commonly place it around the million-SHU region, although we would treat published figures as estimates rather than a formally established heat rating. The flavour is generally described as fruity and citrus-forward with floral notes before the intense heat develops.
Because several selections and phenotypes of this relatively modern cross are now circulating, some variation in pod shape, texture and colour should be expected. Growers interested in unusual genetics may wish to select seeds from plants producing the most heavily blistered “fried chicken” phenotype.
