Xion Mutant Chilli Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds
Xion Mutant is part of the fascinating family of mutant-type chillies, a group prized by collectors for their unpredictable growth patterns and dramatic pod shapes. Mutant peppers often develop unusual traits such as corking, blistered skin, twisted forms, random lobes, and deep surface wrinkling caused by natural genetic instability. These traits can vary wildly from pod to pod, even on the same plant. Xion Mutant showcases this beautifully, producing gnarly, sculpted fruits with intense colour transitions as they ripen. Heat levels are typically fierce and fast-hitting, with a clean burn and complex aroma. Plants are vigorous, ornamental, and endlessly entertaining, making them a favourite for growers who enjoy the unexpected and appreciate peppers with real personality.
A note on the mutant story: this narrow-leaf form is often confused with Pimento del Deserto/Sahara, but it’s a separate line. The best-known ancestor, Candlelight Mutant, circulated around 2009 via Rauno (“Bluesman”) in Finland. Records trace seed back to Massimo Biagi in Italy, who received it from a Moroccan Bedouin. Some growers see a true mutation; others think it’s a desert adaptation. Either way, it’s chilli history you can grow.
