🍆 Ping Tung Long Aubergine Seeds – 15 Fresh Seeds
Ping Tung Long is a superb traditional Taiwanese aubergine prized for its exceptionally long, slender purple fruits, tender flesh and excellent flavour.
Unlike the large, chunky aubergines commonly found in supermarkets, Ping Tung Long produces elegant elongated fruits with glossy purple skin. The flesh is tender and mild, making it particularly good for stir-fries, grilling, roasting and Asian-style dishes.
Originally associated with Pingtung in southern Taiwan, this warm-loving variety performs particularly well in a greenhouse or polytunnel in the UK, although plants can also be grown outdoors in a warm, sheltered position during a good summer.
The plants are vigorous and productive, producing attractive purple flowers followed by numerous slender fruits. Harvest regularly while the skin remains glossy for the best texture and flavour.

Sowing: January–April
Germination temperature: 24–30°C
Germination: Approximately 7–21 days

Harvest: July–October, depending on sowing time and conditions
Sow indoors in trays or small pots of good-quality seed compost. Aubergines need consistent warmth to germinate, so a heated propagator is particularly useful for early sowings.
Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant individually into pots and gradually pot on as they grow. Plant into their final position once temperatures are reliably warm.
Keep plants consistently watered and feed regularly once flowering and fruiting begins. Harvest the aubergines when they have reached a good size but while the skin is still smooth, firm and glossy.
