Cubanelle Sweet Pepper Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds
Cubanelle is a classic sweet frying pepper producing long, tapered fruits with thin, crisp walls and a deliciously mild, sweet flavour.
The attractive peppers typically grow around 12–18cm long, with broad shoulders tapering towards a gently pointed tip. Fruits are usually harvested when pale yellow-green, when they are crisp and sweet, but can be left on the plant to mature through orange to rich red, becoming sweeter as they ripen.
Cubanelle peppers have very little heat, generally around 0–1,000 SHU, making them an excellent choice for anyone wanting plenty of pepper flavour without significant chilli heat.
The relatively thin walls make Cubanelle particularly good as a frying and cooking pepper. They are superb sautéed with onions, roasted, grilled, stuffed or sliced into pizzas, sandwiches, salads and Mediterranean-style dishes. They are also widely used in Caribbean and Latin American cooking.
Plants are productive and bushy, typically reaching around 60–75cm tall, and will crop well in pots, greenhouses, polytunnels or a warm sheltered position outdoors.
Allowing some fruits to fully ripen produces beautiful orange-red peppers with an even sweeter flavour, while picking regularly at the pale green stage encourages the plant to continue producing.
