Indonesian Variegated × (BRW × Oda) F4 is a fascinating experimental chilli cross featuring enormous purple-bleeding calyxes, beautiful multicoloured fruits and striking variegated foliage.
Originally created by Indonesian chilli breeder Agus Bangkat Widagdo, this remarkable breeding project combines three distinctive pepper lines to produce something genuinely unusual.
From the dramatic purple colouring to the enormous calyxes that almost swallow the developing fruits, this is a chilli that demands attention!
💜 Extraordinary Giant Purple Calyxes
Without question, the most remarkable feature of this cross is its spectacular calyx development.
On our plants, the calyxes can become exceptionally large, extending down around the shoulders of the developing peppers.
Their beautiful purple pigmentation creates a dramatic contrast against the fruits, with some displaying striking purple bleeding that extends into the stalks.
It’s an extraordinary characteristic that makes this chilli stand out even among other unusual ornamental pepper varieties.
🎨 A Kaleidoscope of Colour
The fruits undergo fascinating colour changes as they develop.
Young peppers can display rich purple colouring before developing lighter shades of cream-yellow and orange, eventually maturing to vivid red.

As its name suggests, Indonesian Variegated contributes the potential for attractive leaf variegation.

🧬 An Exciting Breeding History
This experimental cross was originally created by Agus Bangkat Widagdo of Indonesia, who has developed numerous unusual and visually distinctive chilli breeding lines.
The cross combines:
- Indonesian Variegated – Attractive variegated foliage and ornamental characteristics.
- Bleeding Rawit White (BRW) – Genetics associated with unusual bleeding and pigmentation.
- Oda – A purple-fruited sweet pepper variety that matures towards red.
The original seeds grown by Red Dragon Seeds were from the F3 generation. We have cultivated and selected plants from this material, producing the F4 seeds offered here.
We are delighted to continue growing and sharing this fascinating breeding project while recognising Agus as the creator of the original cross.
