BBG Blood Orange is a striking Bubblegum-type superhot chilli with dark foliage, dramatic pod colour changes and the highly desirable bleeding calyx trait.

The plants are extremely ornamental, producing dark green to almost black-purple foliage and heavily pigmented young fruits. As the pods mature, colour begins to move through the fruit and into the calyx, creating the characteristic “bleeding” effect that Bubblegum-type chillies are famous for.

Our phenotype produced pods progressing from black-green / deep purple through orange and finally into rich red-orange to red, often with several colours visible on the plant at the same time. Mature pods are wrinkled, thick-looking and typically have the broad, contorted shape associated with many Capsicum chinense superhots.

The combination of dark foliage, almost black immature pods and intensely coloured ripe fruit makes BBG Blood Orange one of those varieties that looks just as good as an ornamental as it does in a superhot collection.

The Bubblegum breeding line is particularly valued for pigmentation that can extend from the fruit into the calyx and sometimes part of the stem. Expression can vary between plants, so the strength of the bleeding effect and final pod colour may differ slightly.
