Dragon’s Tongue Wax Bush Bean Seeds – 15 Fresh Seeds

Dragon’s Tongue is a beautiful heirloom wax bean producing broad, creamy yellow pods dramatically streaked and splashed with purple. Also known as Dragon Langerie, it combines excellent flavour with one of the most distinctive appearances of any bush bean.

The compact bush plants require little support and produce tender, crisp pods that are best harvested young. Dragon’s Tongue can be eaten fresh, steamed, sautéed or used as a colourful addition to salads. The purple markings fade during cooking, so enjoy young pods raw if you want to retain their spectacular colouring.

Species: Phaseolus vulgaris
Type: Wax Bean
Growth Habit: Bush
Pod Colour: Cream-yellow with purple markings
Also known as: Dragon Langerie

🌱 Growing Guide – Dragon’s Tongue Wax Bush Bean

Sowing: April–June
Germination: 7–14 days
Germination Temperature: 15–25°C
Position: Full sun, preferably sheltered
Plant Height: Approx. 40–50cm
Spacing: 30–40cm
Harvest: July–October

How to Grow:
Sow seeds 3–5cm deep in pots or modules indoors, or sow directly into well-prepared soil once the ground has warmed and the risk of frost has passed. Keep the compost or soil evenly moist during germination.

Harden off indoor-raised plants gradually before planting outside. Choose a warm, sunny position and space plants approximately 30–40cm apart.

Dragon’s Tongue is a compact bush bean, so unlike climbing beans it normally requires little or no support. Keep plants well watered, particularly when flowering and while the pods are developing.

Plants produce attractive flowers followed by distinctive creamy-yellow pods splashed and streaked with purple.

Harvest the pods regularly while they are young and tender for the best flavour and texture. Frequent picking will also encourage continued production.

💡 Growing Tip: Don’t wait for the pods to become oversized before picking. Young Dragon’s Tongue beans are beautifully tender, and the spectacular purple markings are at their best before cooking.
