Capsicum Praetermissum Chilli Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds

Capsicum praetermissum is a wild chilli species native to Brazil, where it grows naturally in forests and scrubland. Often grouped with other Brazilian wilds such as C. baccatum var. baccatum, it is valued for its striking ornamental appearance, vigorous growth, and pleasantly punchy heat. Plants are bushy and resilient, regularly reaching 1 to 1.5 metres in height when given space.

The fruit are small, round to teardrop shaped, typically about a centimetre long, and ripen through a glossy green to a rich red. Heat levels sit in the medium range, but the flavour is clean and sharp, making the peppers excellent for sauces, drying, or adding aromatic heat to dishes without overpowering them. Praetermissum is also known for its distinctive flowers, which display the mottled petal pattern characteristic of some wild Capsicum species.

One of the key strengths of C. praetermissum is its hardiness. It tolerates cooler conditions better than many domesticated chillies and has good natural pest resistance, making it ideal for growers who want reliability without excessive fuss. It produces heavily once established, often setting fruit in clusters that stand upright on the plant.

Because of its genetic diversity and wild origin, Capsicum praetermissum is also important in breeding work, where it contributes disease resistance and robust growth habits. For home growers, it offers a combination of beauty, productivity, and a lively, aromatic heat that sets it apart from more common cultivated varieties.
