Petalosa Bleeding F4 Experimental Chilli Seeds
(Dream Catcher × Thunder Mountain Longhorn) × (Bleeding Rawit White × Doe Hill) × Petalosa Bleeding
An Extraordinary Experimental Chilli – Where Every Plant Could Be a Surprise! 🌸🌶️
Some chillies are grown for their heat. Others for their unusual colours or striking fruits.
Petalosa Bleeding F4 is something altogether different!
This fascinating experimental chilli combines genetics from several distinctive varieties, bringing together the potential for spectacular multi-petalled flowers, striped fruits and unusual bleeding calyx characteristics.
Currently at the fourth filial generation (F4), this exciting breeding line is still developing, making it a particularly interesting choice for experienced chilli growers, collectors and anyone fascinated by the wonderful world of pepper genetics.
🌸 Extraordinary Multi-Petalled Flowers
Perhaps the most remarkable feature of this cross is its potential to produce unusual flowers.
Unlike the typical five-petalled chilli blossom, some plants in the Petalosa lineage can develop extraordinary double or multiple-petalled flowers.
The Petalosa genetics originate from Petalosa Doppio, an unusual pepper discovered by Massimo Stomeo in Italy, celebrated for its striking floral characteristics.
Our F4 plants have already displayed fascinating multi-petalled white flowers, demonstrating why this breeding project is so exciting.
🌶️ Striped Pods and Unusual Colours
The genetic combination introduces the possibility of some truly beautiful fruits.
Our plants have produced elongated, irregularly shaped pods displaying distinctive pale striping while immature.
As the fruits mature, shades of orange and red can develop, creating beautiful contrasts between the coloured skin and lighter stripes.
The photographs show examples from our own growing and selection work at Red Dragon Seeds.
With several different pepper varieties contributing to this cross, individual plants may display different combinations of fruit shape, colouring and surface characteristics.
🩸 The Bleeding Calyx Trait
Another particularly interesting feature in the ancestry is the bleeding calyx characteristic.
This refers to colouration extending into the calyx region where the fruit joins the stalk, potentially creating unusual visual effects.
The expression of this trait is not guaranteed and may vary between individual plants.
🧬 A Fascinating Breeding History
This original cross was created by Agus Bangkat Widagdo, combining genetics from:
- Dream Catcher
- Thunder Mountain Longhorn
- Bleeding Rawit White
- Doe Hill
- Petalosa
The Petalosa ancestry traces back to the unusual Petalosa Doppio discovered by Massimo Stomeo in Italy.
Red Dragon Seeds did not create the original cross. Our involvement has been in growing, evaluating and selecting plants from the F3 generation into F4, observing the remarkable characteristics emerging along the way.
We are delighted to continue working with this fascinating breeding line.
🌱 An Experimental Variety – Expect Variation!
Important: This is an experimental F4 breeding line, not a fully stabilised chilli variety.
Plants grown from these seeds may differ from one another in flower form, fruit shape, striping, mature colour and other characteristics.
Double-petalled flowers, striped pods and bleeding calyces are traits observed within the breeding line, but they cannot be guaranteed in every plant.
For enthusiasts who enjoy growing unusual chillies and exploring genetic diversity, this variation is part of the excitement!
