Yatsufusa Japanese Chilli Seeds – 10 Fresh Seeds
Yatsufusa is a traditional Japanese chilli variety prized for its attractive upright clusters of slender red peppers and its excellent culinary qualities.
The compact, multi-branched plants typically reach around 45–60cm tall and produce clusters of narrow chillies held upright above the foliage. Fruits are approximately 5–8cm long, starting glossy green before ripening to a vivid bright red. The clustered fruiting habit makes Yatsufusa an attractive variety for containers as well as the vegetable garden.
The peppers have a clean, sharp heat similar to Cayenne or traditional Japanese Takanotsume chillies, generally reported at approximately 30,000–75,000 Scoville Heat Units. The flavour is spicy and aromatic, with a slightly fruity character.
Yatsufusa is particularly valued as a drying chilli. Fully ripe red fruits can be dried and ground into chilli flakes or powder and are traditionally associated with Japanese seasonings including Shichimi Togarashi, the famous Japanese seven-spice blend. They are also excellent for stir-fries, noodles, soups, sauces and Asian-style dishes.
A productive, compact chilli with plenty of ornamental appeal, making it an excellent choice for pots, patios, greenhouses and sunny sheltered positions.
