Chopsuey Greens ‘Shungiku’ (also known as edible chrysanthemum) is a fast-growing leafy vegetable widely used in Asian cuisine. The tender, finely cut leaves have a distinctive, slightly aromatic flavour—somewhere between spinach, celery, and a mild chrysanthemum note—making them perfect for stir-fries, soups, and hot pots.

This variety is quick to establish and can be harvested young as baby leaves or left to mature for fuller flavour and larger foliage. It’s an excellent cut-and-come-again crop, producing multiple harvests from a single sowing. As well as being a great addition to the kitchen garden, Shungiku is also attractive in the plot, with lush green foliage and daisy-like flowers if left to bolt.

Easy to grow and well-suited to UK conditions, it performs best in cooler weather, making it ideal for spring and autumn sowings. A great choice if you’re looking to grow something a bit different with real culinary value.
